The Wellington correspondent of the Herald wrote as follows on the llth of October :- " It is now reported that Mr Reader Wood was the Marplot of the Fitzherberfc Ministry. It is further reported that he had undone in two days what ifc had taken two months to accomplish. Sir George Grey had agreed to stand out of the Ministry, and Sir W. Fitzherberfc had been chosen chief. It was all arrauged. On Mr Wood's return, he' went to Sir George Grey, insisted that he should maintain his position of leader, and chief of the Ministry. That it was absurd to think of anything else. At the meeting of the Middle and other party,
Mr Wood argued in the same fashion, declaring that Sir George Grey must take the Premiership, and throw down the gauntlet of separation at once. This was driving confusion into the camp, and the result is that we see ' what now we see.' The change to the latest style of lady's hat is readily accomplished now by simply unshipping the bustle and transferring it to ijhe top of the wearer's head.
