LATEST WAR NEWS. GREAT RUSSIAN VICTORY. Wellington, Monday. The Agent-General's telegram, dated London, October 17, reports a great Russian victory in Asia. The column of General Dazarff outflanked the Turks, and Geueral Hennema attacked and carried Mount Cawlias cutting Mukhtar Pasha's army in two. Mukhtar retreated towards Kars, but was pursued and routed, losing an enormous number in killed, and 1000 prisoners, including seven Pashas. Three Turkish divisions were surrounded, and surrendered with 32 guns and immense quantities of war material. The Russian losses were not large. The positions at Plevna and Shipka Pass are unchanged. Bombay, Oct. 12. The Daily News special correspondent with the Czarewitch's army says thafc one week's rain has converted the camp into a lake of mud, and that the roads are impassable except between Biela and Rustchuk. The troops are unprepared for winter, having lost their great coats aud tents on the retreat from Lorn. The Inverary Castle has been destroyed by fire. October 14. Ihe Republicans have carried the French elections so far. The Penge murderers were reprieved the night preceding the date fixed for the execution.
