The Melrose, bound for Newcastle, was towed to sea by the Wallace this morning. She has beea beating against a strong sea breeze all day, and was uot many miles away when we went to press. The signal was flying for a barque all the morning, and in the afternoon the brig Sea Spray put in an appearance, after which the signal was altered to that of a brig. The Sea Spray is from Newcastle, and brings a cargo of coal, cousigned to Messrs N. Edwards & Co.
The Albion lauded the West Coast and Nelson portion of her cargo in good time, and she was enabled to take her departure for South and Melbourne this morning; She should be in Wellington by eight o'clock to-night. We observe that Mr Jago is purser for this trip. The p. 9. Wallace left Nelson at 5.30 p.m. on Monday for Wellington, and arrived alongside the wharf there at 5 a.m. on Tuesday; left again for Nelson at 8 p.m. 3'esterday, and had a light south-easter with smooth water on the passage across, arriving alongside the Albion Wharf at 8.30 a.m. to-day. She leaves at' 6 p.m. for Wanganui. In our notice of the repairs to the schooner Zior on Tuesday, we stated that the contract price for them was £75. This, of course, did not apply to the whole of the repairs, hut only to the carpentering work. The entire cost of repairing the damage, including anchors and chains, sails, etc., amounted to something like £300. Wo mention this to remove an erroneous impression which appears to exist amongst some that the vessel was got ready for sea for £75.
