QUEEN BEE RELIEF FUND.

To the Editor of thb 'Evening Mail.' Sir,—As one of the subscribers and collectors to the above fund, I might be pardoned for entering my protest against the manner in which the surplus money of the ahove fund has beeu disposed of ; once the absolute needs of the sufferers had been relict ed, it was the duty of tbe Committee to have placed the residue in one'of the Banks as a general relief fund, and which sum might have borne interest till sosre other disaster occurred requiring public aid. It should be borne in mind that no inconsiderable part o" the fund was collected from parties who could not possibly afford to give more than five shillings each, and when they know that nearly £200 have been divided between eight or nine people, who had been previously relieved from the same fund, it cannot be wondered at if they refuse to contribute, in future, to any relief fund, feeling, as they undoubtedly will, that in all probability the recipients would be placed in a better position than many contributors. It is, in my opinion, an " error in judgment," but errors in judgment, like misfortunes, seldom happen singly. I was about to ask why Captain Davies was left out in the cold, he being undoubtedly the greatest sufferer ; but, alas! for Christian charity, I fear we grow but sorry crops of lhat much needed commodity in Nelson, and when I see certain leading citizens, including one of the heads of a Christian church, setting so bad an example in that matter, I am inclined to the belief that jet smaller crops of that already scarce article will be cultivated here. Yours, &c, W. White. Spring Grove, September 29.
