ARRIVAL OF THE STELLA.
The Colonial Government's steam yacht Stella came into harbor last evening at 5.30. She left Wellington at 12.45 a.m., aud arrived at Picton at 6 a.m.; left again at 6.30, arriving here as above. The Stella was built by the celebrated firm of Messrs Scott and Co., Grovel Shipyard, Cartsdyke, and her dimensions are as follows :— Length between perpendiculars, 150ft; breadth of beam, 2 lf t; depth of hold, 12ft 6in. She is fitted with two engines of 72 h.p. nominal each, the diameters of the cylinders being 40 and 22 inches respectively. Her bow is not unlike that of tie old steamer Aiiedale, and is somewhat sharp, the cutwater having a graceful curve. The saloon is amidships, and is approached by a large companion from the officers' cabins, which are on deck. It is a comfortable place, though very small, •and well lighted and ventilated. The steerage is forward, and is a miserable dingy Jittle hole, with but very little room. The Stella is rigged as a three-masted-schooner, snasts being of iron, and having a tremendous rake. She is a verj' badly constructed boat, but very little attention having been paid with regard to the saving of room. As regards her steaming- powers she has not yet been fairly tried, but, judging by the time she took to get out of the harbor last evening, she does not appear to be very fast. The steamer is not in a very clean condition, sufficient time not having been allowed since iierux rival in New Zealand to put her into dock. She made the exceedingly long passage out of 141 (lay?, which included stoppages at six intermediate ports, some for the purpose of coaling, aud others to reined}' accidents and make alterations. The Stella put into Lisbon on the passage out for the purpose of having her masts shortened, which detained her seventeen days. Again siio called at the Cape of Good Hope, and hid a breakwater put on forward. After remaining here about an hour, the Stella took her departure fur the North.
