Auckland, Monday. Olson's Sauce Manufactory, with the proprietor's house on one side, and Mr Meurent's house on the other, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday night. The fire broke rut at ten o'clo k, and lastel *>n hour. The value of the prrperty destroyed is £5000. Olson's factory was burnt la^t year Mr Olson and his wife were aw»y at Dedwood spending the evening. They left Wil iatn Martin in charge at four o'clock. He is a trustwethy man, and has been five years in the employ. After seeing a 1 safe he locked up at five, and went to his residence, a short di tnnce away. There is no clue as to the origin of the fire, which was seen by the Misses Meurent whtn they wt re poing to bed The house occupied by Mr Blandin in the rear of the factory had a narrow escape, as a" so that occupied by Mr Calber, close to Mr Meurent's. A gale was blowing all the time, and whirling the f parks about for half a mile. The Catholic school nearly caught fire through this means Th& insurances on Olson's stock are:— New Zealand, i! 2,0:.0: plant, £950. Half of these risks were reinsured in the South British. Dwelling house In the New Zealand, £300; furniture, New Zealand, £100; manufactory, in the South British, £400. Meurent's house wns insured ia tha Victoria for £290. The furni.ure was uninsured.
