' J Napibb, Wednesday. irThe dinner to Bir Donald M'Lean came off ifflrt evening, and was a most saccestlal affair, •Mr Joseph Rhode*, M.P.C., being in the chair; The following gentletmn were present:—The Superintendent, District Judge Westoo, Mr sealey, R.M., aod eighty others, who were leading resident! of town and ODOtftry settlers. After the Governor's health, ■wtftch was cordially received. Sir Donald M'lean made some graceful allusions to his Excellency, expressing regret at his departure ftbto the Colony, and referred to the seal and itapartiiklity which be had displayed in.riispen^ing <he imporUnt trust repodfd in him Iqr Mr Majesty. In reply to his own to«t, fUrDooild after acknowledging it, adverted to the colonizing policy Inanguratid by the 'Ministry of which he was a member, to the progress of roads of railways oi telegtaphic extension, to the purchase oi the le°ae of Native fiaoatV to Immigration, and to thefloMiciai petition of the Colony. He ih;n spoke on the .abpUtfonj)f provinces, which he strongly urged, and afterwords touched on the Native question aad peace policy, on the necessity of educating Natives in the English language, b > as pa let them grow up with a knowledge of oer'English laws. He aho referred to thu Annuitiee, and Insurance, and Public Trusts Acts* snd to social measures of an important fchat*cter Ib whioh the Hon. Mr Fox took ' interest. Sir Donald M'Leaa also to the. cordial zeal with which the officers of both Native and Defence Departments had co-operated with him in the di«ejiargVpf very difficult duties.
