LOCAL NEWS.

H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. — We are authorised to state that H.R.H. has expressed very great satisfaction at the reception he has met with during his short stay iv Nelson. He has also authorised Captain Pitt, A.D.C. to the Governor, to convey his thanks to the Officer commanding the Volunteers for the manner in which those under his command turned out to form a guard of honor on his arrival. H.R.H. leaves the wharf at 10 o'clock to-night, and we trust that the populace will turn out en masse to bid faiewelL to one who by his courteous aud affable demeanour, has won the hearts of all with whom he has come in contact since he has been in Nelson. We understand that H.M.S. Galatea will be illuminated at eleven o'clock. Mesmeeism. — Dr Carr in spite of the excitement aroused by the royal visit still continues to draw crowded houses aud success, every night in astonishing his audience by a display of his wonderful powers. We understand that he is to perform again to-night at the Odd Fellows' Hall. Court Minstrels. — We observe that Pelling's Company of Minstrels are about to pay us a visit, when judging from the accounts given of them by the Australian papers we shall enjoy such a treat as we seldom get in Nelson. The s.s. Omeo did not arrive at Melbourne in time to catch the outgoing mail steamer for England. She had not arrived on the 2nd inst., and the mail steamer sailed that day. — West Coast Times.
