THE CRICKET MATCH.

The-return match between the Nelson and Wakefield Clubs, which was commenced on Tuesday on the ground at Victory-square, was brought to a conclusion yesterday afternoon, and resulted in the victory of the Wakefield team by 74 runs. As we have already stated, when the stumps were drawn on Tuesday eveniug at 6 o'clock, the Wakefield men had made 65 runs in their second innings, with three wickets to go down. During the night, however, the rain fell heavily, and the match could not be resumed until half-past 2 o'clock on Wednesday, when the three remaining Wakefield players made a score of 24, raising their total to 89. Nelson had now 129 to get in order to constitute them the victors, and, in spite of the large odds against them, they played very steadily, making 54 runs for their second innings, and thus giving the Wakefield team the victory, as we have already stated, by 74 runs. The bowling of Messrs Barnes and H. Cross on the Nelson side, was deserving of all praise, and the fielding on both sides was of more than ordinary excellence. On the evening of the first day's play the two elevens partook of an excellent dinner at the Trafalgar Hotel, Henry Adams, Esq., occupying the chair, when a very agreeable evening was passed. At the conclusion of the match the Wakefield Eleven left town in Holder's van, drawn by six horses, and accompanied by the Wakefield Brass Baud playing ' See the conquering hero comes.' We subjoin the scores of the two days' :—
