CRIMINALS' BILL OF FARE.

To THE EniTOK OF THE NELSON EVENING MAIL. Sic —Until the public saw your very useful reports of the eccentric doings of the Provincial Council, they were not aware thafc "4s per diem" (or 28s per week) was allowed for the food of every criminal in Nelson gaol. At some of tbe hotels the charge is 25s a week, and at one only SOs, and this includes bed, firing, and sittingroom. Let us see what this 4s would provide daily for the criminal's table: —2lbs bread 4^d, 21bs meat 9d, ham and eggs 9d, butter and cheese 4|d, tea, coffee, chocolate, and sugar ls, beer or nobblers (" medical comforts"?) 9d. How many honest, hardworking fellows would like to fare sumptuously everyday like a Sullivan or an Anderson ! Hurrah for the Road !
