Mr Semple to Visit Palmerston North
CLOSE INSPECTION OF NO. 60 HIGHWAY. Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., advised yesterday that the Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) will arrive in Palmerston North, shortly after mid-day on Tuesday. He will make the journey from Wellington by car via the Whirokino, in order to see the road improvement work in progress there. Following lunch at Palmerston North, it is the intention of the Minister to meet representatives of the Kairanga County Council, inspect the route of the proposed highway through Makerua, and return from Shannon to Palmerston North via the No. 60 highway. He will closely inspect this, because of the negotiations which have been proceeding between the Public Works Department and the County Council in connection with the sealing programme which has been advocated. Provided due notice is given either to Mr Hodgens or Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P., the Alinister will receive deputations in the evening. He will stay overnight at this centre. There is still no indication when the Minister of Railways (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) will make his projected visit to Palmerston North, but it will not be until after the completion of the itinerary for his South Island tour. Air Semple will be in Marton on Wednesday and Thursday, accompanied by Mr G. H. O. Wilson, M.P., and will receive deputations on various matters affecting the departments under his control. On Thursday afternoon he will go on to Taihape, returning via the Parapara road to Wanganui.
