False Declarations for Sustenance
MUST STOP IT, SAYS MAGISTRATE Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 22. “Something will have to be done to stop this sort of thing. Perhaps it these men were made to work it out on their half-holidays it might do soma good,” said Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., in fining eight men, who appeared ou summons charged with making faJso declarations for the purpose of obtaining benefit under the Employment Promotion Act. Nearly all tho cases, the prosecuting inspector said, were those of men draw - ing sustenance and doing casual work, earning above the statutory limit. The Magistrate fined the men the amount they had obtained in excess and ordered repayment by weekly instalments of from 5s to 10s.
