PERSONALITIES
Dr. E. Clarke and Mrs. Clarke, Nelson, have returned home from a holiday spent with Mrs. Clarke’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Campbell, Kauwhuta. Mr Eobert Timpany, a pioneer of the sawmilling industry in Southland, died yesterday, in Invercargill, at the age of 77. With his brothers, Mr Timpany had been successfully conducting sawmills in the province for many years.— Press Assn. Eev. F. A. Crawsliaw, formerly a minister of the Congregational Church in New Zealand, who was for some years a resident of Palmerston North, aud who is now general secretary for Australia of the Mission to Lepers, has arrived in Aucklaud. He is to make a month’s lecture tour of the North Island iu the interests of the mission. Mr. aud Mrs. F. yiater returned to the city last evening after a month’s holiday spent at Whangaroa and Bay of Islands. Mr. Slater enjoyed some ex eellent sport deep sea lishiug and at Whangaroa had the distinction of catching tike first swordfish and inuko shark of the season. The swordfish weighed 3051b5. and the shark 2651b3 , and this honour won for Mr. Slater a silver cup and silver fish. Schnapper and ltingfish were plentiful but nothing to the thrill of a four-iliour fight with one of the “big” ones.
