Centenary Approaches

Yesterday was the ninety-seventh anniversary of the first settlement of the Wellington province, a fact which serves as a reminder that only three years hence centenary celebrations will be held. At about that same season will be due the hundredth birthday of most of the other provinces. So 1940 will be the centenary year of New Zealand’s settlement, by the British people. Already plans are being made for its fitting observance. A great exhibition is planned in Wellington and local celebrations are anticipated in all centres throughout the Dominion. With memories of Victoria’s centenary it should be realised that this will be a very great occasion.
