TENNIS IN TEETH OF HIGH WIND
Manawatu Close Tourney Well Advanced A high wind sweeping across the Lin ton street courts the long day through precluded accurate play when the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s district championships began yesterday morning. But for the wind, however, there might well have been no play, as rain fell extensively overnight. As it was, the start was delayed for an hour. Sun in the afternoon improved the speed of the courts. The fixture is under the management of Messrs. J. T. McDonald, L. Plimmer and J. Christie. The events consist of men’s and women’s championship singles, and men’s doubles, the handicap section comprising men’s and women’s singles, and women’s doubles. There are no combined doubles.
