TEMPER AGAINST QUIST
DID BROMWICH ERR? Adrian Quist is now playing the brand of .tennis that made him fourth player of the world last year. Incidentally the order to-day is von Cramm and Budge almost equal, and Quist just a whisker behind both, writer “Austral” in the Sydney Referee. Quist has forced his way through to the Centenary title of South Australia in no uncertain fashion. He was clearly out for revenge on John Bromwich in the final at Adelaide. Bromwich beat him in Sydney, where the conditions were in favour of the Sydney player. After a close first set Quist dominated the game so clearly that he only lost two more games. Bromwich lost heart. It is said that he showed temper by throwing his racquet away. If this is so it is regretable, but it seems peculiar that his conduct in Sydney should be wholly admirable, and that he should lapse in Adelaide. He is only a boy, and praise will do more good than blame for some slight peccadillo. Bromwich showed no petulance when he just missed beating Crawford in that match point in Sydney for the N.S.W. title. Quist is at his very best and that is a good omen for Davis Cup contests.
