JUDGES’ COMMENTS.
HIGH STANDARD ATTAINED. The judge of the photography (Mr J. E. Lewis, of Palmerston North), remarked that, largely because of the difficulty of securing materials at the present - time, the number of entries was not as good as formerly, but the general quality of the exhibition hhd not deteriorated. On the contrary, there was a pleasing evenness about the classes which did not contain a few exhibits of a distinctly better Standard than the others, as had been the case in some other years. For this Show the entries were all of a high quality! Commenting on the home made butter, members of the Dairy Division staff, who judged the exhibits, stated that the quality was very pleasing with flavour and texture very good indeed. Commenting ; on the farm products division, the judge (Mr. A. 0. Buist, of Feilding) remarked that tile quality of the entries was excellent but, considering the fertility of the district, tlie number was not encouraging. “It is only by competition and comparison,” said Mr Buist, “that farmers improve their flocks, and the same remarks should apply to farm jiroduce. Considering the unfavourable season, the chaff and hay competition brought, forward some excellent entries, and it was difficult to separate, the winners. A pleasing feature was the increase m the entries for wheat, particularly in view of the present, calf for increased growing of foodstuffs.”
