SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS.
There was a very good attendance of members at the quarterly meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the South African War Veterans’ Association, held in the National Club rooms on Saturday evening. The president (Mr C. Newman) was in the chair. The quarterly report proved the association to be in a flourishing condition. Ml- Bowers’s resignation was received with regret Mr W. Hills (Makino) invited the members to an “at home” at his residence on July 6. Thanks to Mrs Hills, this function has now become an annual one, and is greatly appreciated by the South African veterans. Major Bosworth was elected to fill the vacancy on the committee caused by the resignation of Mr Hasloch. After the formal business had been concluded, members adjourned to the supper room, wh'ere a very inviting repast had been prepared by the secretary. The toasts honoured were: The loyal toast (Mr Newman); “Armv, Navy and Air Force” (Mr HSmith); “Our Allies” (Colonel Whyte); “Absent Comrades” (Mr Robertson), this being rendered .very impressive by Lieutenant McKain sounding the Last Post and Reveille; “The Ladies (Major Bosworth); “The Press” (Mr Crawford).* The next meeting will be held at Feilding.
