FLYING-OFFICER KAIN.

DEATH CONFIRMED. Received June 11, 9.10 a.in. LONDON. June. 10. The death of Flying-Officer E. J. Kain, of Wellington,; is confirmed. He was killed in a flying accident on active service. The last available news of Kain was cabled on May 27 when his bag of German ’planes exceeded forty. The report of Flying-Officer ‘Kain’s death is given prominence in the daily Press and has caused widespread expressions of sorrow, states a Sydneymessage. Military and aviation authorities declare that Kain was the tvpe of airman the Empire could ill afford to lose. \ ~ INSPIRING- RECORD. tribute by premier. ■ Au expression, of regret and profound sympathy at the death of Fly-ing-Officer. Edgar James Kain, D.F.C., was sent yesterday to-' his parents, Mr and Mrs R. G. .Kain, of Wellington, and their family, by the Prime Minister (Hon? P. Fraser). ‘‘We, have -followed Flvihg-Officer Kain s brilliant and daring exploits in the Royal Air'Force with intense pride,” states Mr Fraser in his tribute. “Hi s record against the enemy ranks with the best individual achievements of the Royal Air Force. This young New Zealander has indeed set a record which 'will inspire his fellowcountrymen now in the Air Force and all those who are waiting to go to the battle-front to take their place beside our lads who are already there — heroes every one of them —fighting with all the dash and vigour and enaurance which have made the Royal Air Force the finest air force in the world to-day. New Zealanders will unite in paying heartfelt tribute to the memory of Flying-Officer Kain and to those other brave young men who have fought and died that their homeland may survive and in full security resume its ways of peace when final victory has been achieved.”
