SOCIAL SECURITY.

Sir,—l am 64 years of age; my wife is 56 years. In'April, 1939, I was granted 30s per week for myself and 5s per week for my wife, making a total ol 35s per week under social security What is my allowable income including the 35s under the Social Security ActP-I am, etc., ANXIOC g. The local office of the Social Security Department states: If an age benefit is, referred to in this letter, section 17 2b of. the Social Security Act provides that a married man in receipt of an age benefit, whose wife has not attained the age of 60, may obtain an additional £l3 a year, but so that the total income of husband and wife, together with the amount of any benefit payable to either of .them under the Act, will not exceed £156 a year. However, i[ the beneficiary forgoes the additional 5s a week for his wife, the allowable income would be, including his benefit, £2OB a year.
