DRIVERS’ LICENSES.

A total of 3400 motor drivers’ licenses had been issued in Palmerston North lip to Saturday, this number, being about 300 fewer than was the case at the corresponding time last year. On this occasion drivers over 70 years of age are required to undergo a medical examination and a frirtlier driving test. One man of 84 years went through the medical examination and the driving test easily for a license to drive a private car. The medical examination deals with the eyesight, hearing, respiration, heart and other points which would show whether the applicant is free'.from disease or disability which would interfere with his or her capabilities for driving. It is understood that several have failed to pass either the medical or the driving test.
