THREAT TO BRITAIN.

REMOVAL OF CHILDREN. LONDON, June 1. The evacuation of more than 47,000 children from the coast of Kent, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk began this morning, 97 special trains taking them to western and middle England counties. In addition 8000 are being evacuated from the east coast area./ On the general question of evacuation from industrial areas, the .Minister of Health (Mr Malcolm MacDonald) said: “The situation regarding evacuation from our large cities and industrial towns is reviewed each morning. In the light of the latest war developments the Government regards the danger of air attack in the near future as so real that we shall have plans for the evacuation of school children as complete as possible by the beginning of next week. Evacuation may not start next week, but we majz definitely decide to start it in some areas in the course of next week, according to developments.” The Times says that certain limited proposals are under consideration for evacuating children from the United Kingdom to Australia and Canada. Parents will be free to make a decision, but it . would be desirable for them to accept the generous offers from New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Shipping accommodation is an important problem. It would take 25 ships of 10,000 tons to convey 25,000 children to New Zealand.
