EMERGENCY MEASURES.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Kindly allow me space in your paper to pass a few comments regarding emergency measures and National Government. I listened over the wireless on Thursday evening to the various arguments lor and against a National Government to administer the above measures, and in my opinion Mr Armstrong’s reply to Mr Doidge was one of the strongest arguments in favour of a National Government. There was not one particle of commonsense or seriousness in his tirade against this particular man. Can a Cabinet composed of men of Mr Armstrong’s calibre administer judiciously and with confidence such a serious measure as the Emergency Bill? Speeches such as this would undermine confidence in any Government in such an emergency as this. All energy should be put into winning the war. Yes; a War National Government is the only way that we will get 100 per cent, war assistance from Neiv Zealand. It does not matter who are in the National Government as long as they are 100 per cent, efficient and loyal. Air Fraser has now an opportunity of doing one 'of the greatest services, to this Dominion and the Mother Country in assisting to form a National Government, and in this he will have the co-operation and loyalty of the ivliole Dominion.—l am, etc., F. L. CUBITT. Palmerston North, June 1, 1940.
