GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
POTATO . EXPORTS WANTED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 31. Business in the grain and produce markets has been very quiet, with no changes in prices since early in the week. There is little .inquiry for potatoes and the amount of new business being done is small. An export outlet for Canterbury supplies would be very welcome, but it seems that if the Ausiralihn embargo is to be lifted at all it will not be for some time yet, although Sydney merchants have reported that Australia will need 10,000 tons of potatoes this year. The Tasmanian price is still easing, tbe latest quotation showing a fall of 10s to.illO 10s.■ The local quotation to farmers is unchanged at £2 15s, to which it eased earlier in the week. The inquiry for Italian rvegrass has been slightly firmer this week, because of the possibility of permits being given for the export of a limited quantity.
The number of hogs, graded in Canada during the first 13 weeks of the year, ended March 28, was 1,119,661 as compared with 898,715 for the corresponding period of 1939.
