HOLIDAY ON MONDAY.
HOROTIU FREEZING AVORKS. --Per Press Association. HAMILTON. May 31. The employees ot the Horotiu freezing works, at a large meeting yesterday, decided not to work on Monday, it being pointed out that it was no use postponing the holiday as far as they were concerned. At present only beef killings are being done at Horotiu, and this is the best time to observe the holiday. The meeting also decided that, for the duration of the war, all employees will donate Is a week to the combined appeal Y.M.C.A. - Salvation Army Soldiers’ Comforts Fund. HASTINGS. May 31. the men will be working as usual on Monday, stated a representative of one of the freezing works this morning when questioned regarding action being taken about the cancellation of the King’s Birthday holiday at the AVhakatu and Tomoana works. At Whakatu the normal season closes to-day, though several hundred men will continue to be employed, while at Tomoana between 450 and 500 men are being employed.
