MUCH ANXIETY.
OUTRAM ENDANGERED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, May 10. The general flood position at the Taieri is unchanged, the fall of water being only an inch, but the cessation of rain is giving the settlers new heart. The railway' is still impassable, but the department, with the assistance of the Citv Council, despatched nine buses with 200 passengers, plus three lorries of luggage for Invercargill, taking the Taieri Mouth-Waihola route. Unfortunately, one corporation bus got straddled across the road, blocking the way, and only five got .through without the luggage lorries, which were also behind the breakdown. Passengers from Invercargill who were to come over the same route, joining the north express hero, were also held up, their position being uncertain. The express left for Christchurch on time. Middlemarch reports probable heavy stock losses. Tt is known that two men have lost 200 sheep. At Outram there has been a bad break in the levee protecting the town, and the position is causing much anxiety. : . ■ . ' A wash-out on the Otago Central line between Omakau and Ranfurly overnight has left the rails five feet in the air. Reports generally" indicate that the rain has ceased.
