Eurl Jellicoe declared that bis work in New Zealand was rendered easy by his predecessors and the temperate New Zealand era. lie regretted that he bad gone to New Zealand sixty years too late. He claimed the Dominion led the way in preference, old age pensions, industrial and arbitration courts, and also with its wartime contingents. He mentioned Mr Lloyd George’s Chanak telegram, which was received in Wellington at 7.45 in the evening during an investiture, after which a Cabinet meeting was immediately Hold and a reply despatched at 9.30 the sumo evening. He was most proud of his connection with New Zealand and his one wish was to re-visit the Dominion as soon as family ties permitted.
