EARL JELLICOE’S TRIBUTE. HOW NEW ZEALAND LEADS. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 24, 8.50 a.in. LONDON, April 22. Earl Jellieoo was entertained by the Coloniul Institute at the Grocers’ Hall. It was one of tho largest functions of recent yeurs, the company including LieutenantColonel Amery, Hon. W. G. OrmsbyGore, and the High Commissioner (Sir Janies Allen), Sympathetic references were made to Mr Massey’s illness, Mr Ornisby-Gore eulogising him as a man who had contributed as much as anyone to the Council of Empire. Eurl Jellicoe declared that bis work in New Zealand was rendered easy by his predecessors and the temperate New Zealand era. lie regretted that he bad gone to New Zealand sixty years too late. He claimed the Dominion led the way in preference, old age pensions, industrial and arbitration courts, and also with its wartime contingents. He mentioned Mr Lloyd George’s Chanak telegram, which was received in Wellington at 7.45 in the evening during an investiture, after which a Cabinet meeting was immediately Hold and a reply despatched at 9.30 the sumo evening. He was most proud of his connection with New Zealand and his one wish was to re-visit the Dominion as soon as family ties permitted. Earl Jellicoe concluded with a feeling reference to Mr Massey’s illness and expressed hope for his restoration io health. —A. and N.Z. cable.
