BUTTER MARKET SLOW. CHEESE REPORTED STEADY. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated IBUI inst., from the High Commissioner for Now Zealand, London, giving quotations as on that date: —Butter: Market slow. New Zealand, salted, finest, 1645, 165 s up to 166 s per cwt (Is sjd to Is 53d per lb); unsalted, 172 s to 176 s per cwt (Is 6id to Is 6jjd per lb); exceptional 178 s per cwt (Is 7d per lb); other qualities, 146 s to 160 s per cwt (Is 3id to Is 5d per lb). Australian : Salted, finest, 158 s to 160 s per cwt (Is 43d to Is 5d per lb); unsalted, 164 sto 166 s per cwt (Is sid to Is 53d per lb); other qualities, baited 140 s to 154 s per cwt (Is 3d, Is 4id per lb), unsalted, 160 s to 162 s per cwt (Is 5d to Is sid per lb). Argentine, unsalted, finest 1525, 156 s up to 158 s per cwt (Is 4id to Is 43d per lb); other qualities, 146 s to 150 s per. cwt (Is 3jd to Is 4d per lb). Danish t 185 sto 188 s per cwt (Is /3d to Is 8d per lb). Cheese.—Market steady. Canadian, coloured and white; 110 s per cwt (lljd per lb). New Zealand coloured and white, 101 s to 102 s per cwl' (lOjd per lb). Australian, coloured 98s to 100 s per cwt (10id per }“)> white 100 s per cwt (10id per lb). English, finest farmers (firm, stocks light), loos to 140 s per cwt (Is 2jd to Is 3d per lb). Eliipments of New Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Matatua. . . Hemp: The Manila market is dull and scarcely steady. Valuo of “J” grade April June shipments 4150 10s. New Zealand market continues dull and eusier. Nominal value liiglipoint fair April-June shipments £3B 10s. Small sale of fair at £37 this week, but later otTers were made at £35 10s and 11c business reported. Casein: French rennet is quoted at £4U per ton. . . , Wool : The Bradford market is quiet, with the tendency in favour _ of , buyers. Nominal prices for tops are: 64s warp (merino), 5s 2d; 64’s average (merino). 4s lid; 56's (super halfbred), 3s 5d ; 40 s prepared (coarse crossbred), 2s 4d. Apples: The market is well supplied with Australian and American, and prices are lower after the holidays. New Zealand Cox's Orange, 25s to 30s per case; best Australian Cox’s, 18s to 20s; New Zealand Premier, 16s to I8<; ;, Dunn’3 Favourite, 18s; Worcester peurmain, 16s to 17 s (somewhat wasty); Ribston Pippin, les to 20s (badly pitted); London Pippin, 16s; .Jonathan, 18s to 21s per case. It is expected that market will he eusier next week in view of heavy arrivals. Oats: The market i 3 quiet and prices easier. Best English white. 30s to 31s per 3361 b; feed, 2Ts. -No. 2 Canadian Western May shipment sold at 25s 9d. Nominal value New Zealand ‘‘A’’ grade, April shipment, 27s per 3201b5.
The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date 17th April, 1925: Butter quiet, 164 sto 168 s per cwt. Cheese steady, 101; per cwt. Frozen meat: There is a little better demand for wethers. The immediate future prospects for owes do not appear good, Tile market for lambs is more active owing to increased demand. Wethers, light, 7£d' to 9id; heavy, 6d to 7<l; ewes. 4Jd to 73d : lambs, under 42‘s. llid to l2d; over 42’s, and seconds, lid to llid. STOCK MARKET. Dalgely and Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, report having a fair yarding of sheep and a good entry of cattle at their Bulls sale on Monday, when practically a total clearance was effected. Quotations: fiat lambs 26s to 28s: small b.f. lambs 16s 3d; good b.f. lambs 23s Id; forward condition empty ewes 23s 4d; fat cows £4 15s, £5, £5 ss, £5 7s 6d : forward cows £2 15s, £3, £3 2s 6d, £3 10s, £3 14s to £3 17s; store cows 10s, £1; young storo cows 355; 18 months steers, £3; weaner heifers, 19s; low condition bulls, £1 to 30s. LONDON WOOL SALES. Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., report having received the folohving cablegram from their London house under date of the 20th inst. : The next wool sales will open on May sth. The list of arrivals is closed. The total new arrivals are as follow: —Australian 30,000 bales, New Zealand 49,000, Cape 3000, Punta Arenas 31.500. FROZEN MEAT MARKET.
The New Zealand Loan, and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house undo. - date 171 0 instant: New Zealand frozen meat: Lamb, ll£d per 11> (average). Mutton: Wither and maiden owe, light 9gd per lb; heavy, 7d per lb; e»e, lignt, b^d; heavy, 6id. Better market. SHORTAGE OF RAIN. PLIGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES. SYDNEY, April 21. Stock owners arc anxiously awaiting rain as unless it speedily comes the autumn and winter lambing will be ruined. There has been very little rain since Christmas and the trouble is accentuated by a plague of grasshoppers. The scarcity of fodder in some districts is so bad that stock owners are preparing to hand feed stock. Press Association. THE HARVEST OF OATS. NO SHORTAGE THIS YEAR. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 21. The yield of oats in, New Zealand this season is estimated by the Government statistician, Mr Malcolm Eraser, at 5,000,000 bushels, as cbmpared with 1,964,511 bushels last year, which was a bad season. There- is, therefore, according to the report furnished by the statistician to the Minister of Internal AlFairs, no likelihood of there being any shortage of oats in the Dominion.
