MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. FOUR GRADES OPEN ON MAY 2. The weokly meeting of the management committee of tho Manawatu Rugby Union was held last night, when the president, Mr A. Hannay, presided over a full attendance of delegates. THIRD GRADE COMPETITION. Mr J. Golquhoun wrote regretting that it would be impossible for the High School to place a team in the third grade competitions, owing to the stature and weight of the boys. The Jackeytown and Woodville Clubs also wnote stating that their strength did not permit of their entering a team in the third grade in preference to the fourth grade, as nominated. The latter club also sought information on the matter of the sth grudo competitions. It was decided to accept the . nominations as supplied by the clubs concerned, tho re-classification committee to consider tho position when the competitions are under way. Relative to the matter of the sth grade competitions, a committee consisting of Messrs Hannay, Faire and White was appointed to interview the High School and Technical School masters with a view to arranging for competing teams in this grade to travel to away matches. SHOWGROUNDS IMPROVEMENTS. Tho chairman reported that he had, in response to a written request, attended the meeting of the Manawutu A. and.P. Association yesterday, when he had been informed that arrangements had been made for the housing of referees in the old bar room in the small stand. Electric light had been installed and tables and forms would also be put in the room for the use of referees. He had further been given to understand that tho removal of the stand and the bigger scheme of alterations would not be proceeded with in the meantime. It would consequently be necessary for the committee, which had been set up, to wait on tho association relative to the matter of tho installation of shower-baths for players. Messrs Hannay, While and Ilardie were instructed to wait on tho association next Friday and report to tho next meeting of the union, the cost of installation of the baths to be ascertained in the meantime. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY. The following appointments were made in connection with the forthcoming seven-a-side tournament on June 3rd: —Director of games, Mr C. W. White; balls and time stewards, Messrs J. R. Ilardie and A. R. Miors; blackboard steward, Mr G. K. Hamilton; cull stewards, Messrs W. Curruthers and H. Crawford; referees’ steward, Mr A. W. Thompson; school director, Mr N. Martin; visiting stewards, Messrs A. Hannay, A. S. Faire, W. A. Lyon and T. Collins; secretary, Mr J. D. Proud. GENERAL. The Pirates Club, Kimberley, wrote advising that it proposed to erect a memorial to the memory of the Jate Mr 11. C. Bennett. The late Mr Bennett was well known t. 9 New Zealanders as the manager of the 1921 Springboks team. The deceased had for tt number of years occupied the position of president of the Griqualand West Rugby Union and chairman of the Griqualand West Cricket Union. He had, for some time prior to his demise, felt the necessity for reviving the club house and gymnasium in connection with the Pirates Club in Kimberley and, at the time of his tragic death two years ago, he was actively engaged in his object, and it was felt that the memorial should take tho form a gymnasium club house in which he had been so keenly interested during his life-time. An Invitation was extended to clubs in New Zealand to participate in the movement.— The letter was received. The secretary of the New Zealand Union wrote advising that, owing to the intervention of , Anzac Day, the annual meeting of the governing bodv would not now be held till April 30.- —Received. The Feikling Agricultural High School Old Boys’ Club wrote making application for permission to adopt royal blue jerseys, Mack trousers and black stockings with roynl blue tops as the club’s colours. —The secretary was instructed to advise tho club that the colours applied for were already in use,, being those of Jackeytown, which had re-entered the competitions. The Western Club wrote making application for tho transfer of L. Hogg from senior to junior grade.—Referred to the classification committee.

The draw for the senior grade in the opening round on May 2 resulted: —Old Boys v. Western United; Kin Toa v. Feikling, at Feilding; Woodville a bye. Mr Pagan, in accordance with notice of motion, moved that tho resolution presenting jerseys to the winning team in tlie primary school competition bo rescinded. —The resolution was carried and tlie practice of allotting jerseys will he reviewed at the conclusion of tho season. It was resolved that a monthly financial statement be presented at future meetings. . The following gate charges were made for club games for the incoming season: Outside gate Is and 6d to stand; ladies and ehildreu freo to grounds, but 6d to the stand. It was decided to again enforce the insurance scheme us was introduced last season. Players from sub-unions participating in representative matches, if injured, will be paid on the basis of the insurance soheme, tlie cost, however, to be borne by the union nnd not the insurance fund. A vote of thanks was extended 3rr H. B. Tucker for his donation of a silver cup, the allocation of the trophy being held over.
