The Agent-General's Report.

WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, 24th:— i The mutton market is quiet, and there is still a scarcity of prime quality. The average? price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4£d for light weights and 4d for heavy weights. The average price to-day for othar brands 'and; North Island mutton is 3gd. River Plate, 3f d, The demand for lamb has fallen off considerably. Supplies of home grown lamb are heavy and are lowering the prices. For New Zealand frozen lamb the average prices tolday are:—Canterbury brands, ofd; brands other than Canterbury, 03d. There is a better demand for beef, New Zealand beef still being held for a rise in prices. Quotations are nominal. The average price for hindquarters of New Zealand beef to-day is 4d; forequarter s'2|-d. There is a good demand for choicest quality butter, and the market is firm. I The average price to-day for choicest New.Zealand butter (stored) is 99s per cwt; new made Australian 109s ; Danish 1225.

The cheese market is steady. The average price for finest New Zealand cheese is 43s per cwt. The hemp market is firm; October to December shipments of " good fair Wellington " grade are quoted at dE29 10s per ton.

The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. The^ average price for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171b per bushel, on spot, to-day is 52s per cwt. ■■*■.-'■■ -
