At Bracken's Commercial Hall, an entire change of performance has taken placo, and Miss Annie Hall and Mr E. F. Morris instead of having exhausted their budget of entertainment have only disclosed fresh and more powerful attractions. We would recommend our readers to see Mr Morris in his character song, " The Unfortunate Man," which is really one of the cleverest conceptions possible to imagine. We should not f rget to mention the dancing of Miss Annie Hall as " Hubert Ridley, Esq.," and Mr J. Walker, whose performances have been much applauded. Sections of No. 4 and 5 to complete the road to Maori Point have been contracted for by Mr Mace, and work is now being carried on. The road will proceed from the Deep Creek, :on the terraces, via Stapleton's, and will avoid that trying ascent of the Big Hill and the ride along the dangerous razorback range. At some future time the old track will be a source of wonderment to people when they are informed the track was once along such an almost inaccessible course as the old one. It is but justice to say that this track was laid out by the mining surveyors, and that it has been accepted and approved ot by the road engineers department, which is a clear proof of the value of the former gentlemen's services in a district like this, which must eventually come to be covered with a network of such |jaths. , The population is largely increasing at the Head of the Lake, and the miners are penetrating into regions lately said to be uninhabitable. With the increase of population, the success is also reported to more than keep up, and those who have repeatedly prognosticated favorably of this new and untried country are in a fair way to see their prophecies verified. A meeting is to be held at Bracken's Commercial Hall this evening, to take steps to secure our effective representative at the Exhibition. The meeting promises to be a success, and we are glad to see the presence of Mr Waymouth has infused vigor and life into a movement that has lately been unaccountably ueglectcd. The Fire Biigade meeting did not take placeon Monday night iu consequence of a quorum not beitig present, and was adjourned for one week.
