THE GOVERNOR OF TASMANIA HOMEWARD BOUND. (Received October 8, 10.15 p.m.) Melbourne, October 8. It is announced that the New Zealand Government has signified their willingness to contribute towards the fund which has been raised for the establishment of an Imperial Institute ; and it is expected that the Australian Colonies generally will increase their contributions to the fund, (Received October 8, 1.5 p.m.) In the Legislative Assembly last night, the Hon. Mr Gillies, Premier, in reply to a question put by Mr M‘lntyre, stated that the colonies cannot agree to submit to their Parliament the Institute resolution. Regarding the Recidiviste question, he further expressed a hope that the result of communications between the English and French Governments would be that France would finally withdraw from the New Hebrides. Hobart, October 8. Governor Sir George Strahan leaves shoitlyfor England. It is uncertain whether bis Excellency will return to the colony.
