The stranded steamer Pelham still remains in the same position as when she struck, and as the sea has been smooth since Tuesday morning no further damage has been done. Her coal is being lightered, but very slowly, only about 85 tons having up to now been landed. Dunedin, August 12. Mary Jane Docherty was committed for trial to-dny for setting fite to the house of Louis Thompson (who waß committed last week for inciting and abetting her), at Hillside. The evidence, with the exception of that of the accused, in the place of which a statement was made to the police, was put in. It was much the same as in the other case. During the passage of the barque Isabel from New York, Mr Nichol, second officer, was carried overboard while attending to the halyards during a heavy sea on June 13. Deceased was the son of a boot manufacturer in Dunedin, and served his time on one of the Albion Company's boats. Wellington, August 12. An apprentice named John Odlin, aged 14, was killed this afternoon by a fall of gravel in si tunudl at the rear of Thos. Rallinger's gas fitting shop. Deceased was playing with other lads when he accideutly knocked away one of the props supporting the roof, and about 15 tons of gravel full. Death was instantaneous. The other lads escaped.
