[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. m «■* VICTORIAN TREASURER’S FINANCIAL STATEMENT. (Received July 21, 1.15 a.m.) Melbourne, July 19. Sailed, this afternoon, the steamship Te Anau, for the Bluff. The Colonial Treasurer, the. Hon. Mr Gillies, introduced his Financial Statement to the Legislative Assembly this evening. He estimates the revenue at £6,970,000, and the expenditure at £6,910,000. The revenue for the last financial year was £6,420,000, and iho expenditure £6,820,000, the actual surplus at the commencement of the present financial year being £30,000. Mr Gi'lies proposes to increase the ad valorum duties upon woollen goods : piece woollens to 20 per cent., and made-up woollens to 30 per cent.
