(Received June 9, 11 a.m.) June 8, It is currently reported that an agreement on the Russo-Afghan frontier question has been virtually arrived at between Great Britain and Russia, the latter Power having yielded in her demands for the Zulfikar Pass. The statement published in the Russian journal to the effect that the Ameer of Afghanistan had been mur deied by some members of his suite has not been endorsed from any other source, and the news is disbelieved by the authorities here. Per Merchant Shipping and Underwriter’s Association : London, June 6. Arrived, the ship Trevelyn, from Napier. All the batteries are being connected by telephone. Some of the papers in Copenhagen publish leaders respecting the proposal of the Russian paper Herold, that in case of war between England and Russia, a coalition should be formed bv Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, who should declare the Baltic neutral water, and by their united navies sustain this

declaration. The Herold reminds Denmark of the events of 1807. It is, however, not likely that Denmark will propose any step such as is now suggested. As Danish trade with England is greater than with Russia, it will be to the interest of the country to maintain the strictest neutrality. Denmark must, of course, make some necessary preparations. Sweden has ordered a small squadron to the Baltic, and has sent some artillery to Gothland.
