[united press association.] Christchurch, June 1. At the R.M. Court this morning Herbert Allerdale (or Affendale) alias John Williams, was charged with burglariously entering the shop of William Jenness, at Wellington, on the night of the 26th May, and stealing therefrom watches and jewellery to the value of £BOO. Inspector Pender said that with the permission of the Bench he would abstain from saying much about the case at present. He assured the Bench that much of the stolen property had been traced to the possession of the prisoner, and the police were investigating the matter further. He applied for a remand till Thursday, when he would produce all the evidence that could be obtained, and then ask that prisoner should be further remanded to Wellington. His Worship remanded the prisoner as required. Auckland, June 2. Kelly’s supporters have subscribed £2OO for the purpose of unseating Sheehan for alleged corrupt practices at the late Taurauga election. Wellington, June 2. Government has decided to increase the size of the Exhibition building, and the tender of the contractors putting up the present building has been accepted, the amount being near £2OOO, A meeting of the Government Insurance Association Board was held this afternoon, when it was unanimously lesolved that the opinion of the policyholders be obtained as to the desirability of establishing local boards. At a meeting of policy-holders to be held on the 27th inst, the policy-holders will be allowed the privilege of voting by proxy, and arrangements are being made to supply them with the necessary papers.
