Murray Smith, Agent-General in London, telegraphs to the Government that he has seen Sir Robert Herbert, Permanent Secretary to the Colonial Office, and that that official doubts the reported German annexation of the northern portion of New Guinea and the islands of New Britain, New Ireland, New Hanover, and the Admiralty Group. Smith adds that the German Embassy in London denies the truth of the information received to that effect.
