DESPATCH OF CHINESE CRUISERS FROM SHANGHAI. THE TRANSPORT OF FRENCH TROOPS TO FORMOSA. (Received December 17, 1 p.m.) Paris, December 15. It is stated here that the French Government has decided to reinforce the fleet operating against the Chinese, and that several ironclads will be despatched to Admiral Courbet in January. Despatches have been received from Admiral Courbet announcing that he has dislodged a strong force of Chinese troops who were menacing the French position at Kelung, and that one hundred Chinese were killed during the action. (Received December 18, 0.46 a.m.) Hong-Kong, December 16. Several Chinese cruisers have left Shanghai. Their destination is as yet unknown, and, in view of the expected intention of the Chinese Government to intercept the reinforcements despatched to the French fleet, an ironclad has been ordered to conroy the French transports from Singapore.
