[united press association.] Auckland, October 20. Among the through passengers by the Zealaudia for Sydney were Joe Thompson, the Australian bookmaker, his brother, and A. M. Piatt and C. A. Eskstromer, two members of the American ring, who, after witnessing the Melbourne Cup, intend to return here and pay the Hot Lakes a visit. Ten per cent, of the fruit imported by the Zealandia was coudemned. The natives are mustering to receive Tawhiao and party. Jacob Hansen was committed for trial for violently assaulting John Constantine with iutent to murder. A Norwegian sailor was senteuced to a month's imprisonment for attempting to kiss a young woman against her will. Christchurch, October 20. Patrick M'Carthy, sailor on the American barque H. J. Dibby, was accused at Lyttelton R.M. Court to-day of stabbing Captain Richardson, and remanded to Friday, so that the United States Consul Griffen can be commnnicated with. M'Carthy's solicitors stated their intention to bring an action against the captain and mate for attempting to murder accused.
