CRICKET. AUSTRALIANS V. SOUTH OF ENGLAND.

(Received September 12, 2.15 p.m.) London, September 11. The match which had been arranged between the Australians cricketers and an All England team has been abandoned, and in its place a match is taking place with the South of England, which is to be the final one of the tour. The Home team consists of the following :—Messrs A. J. F. Ford, W. G. Grace, Horner, W. A. Reed, Whitfield, Painter, Maurice Reid, Wood, Woof, Wootten, and O’Brien. Later. The Home team have been all disposed of in their first innings for 56 runs. (Received September 12, 4 p.m.) Evening. In the first innings of the eleven representing South England, which closed for a total of 56, the highest scorer was W. G. Grace, with 24 (caught). W r hen the stumps were drawn for the day the Australians had scored 159, with nine wickets down, the principal contributors being—Bannerman, caught 35; Giffen, caught, 35; Bonnor, caught, 27.

The attendance at the match was good, and weather fine ; but the wicket was heavy, owing to recent rains. (Received September 13, 12.20 p.m.) September 12. The cricket match Australians versbs South of England resulted to-day in a victory for the visitors by an innings and five runs.

The first innings of the Australians closed for 163.

The home team i squired to make 109 to avert defeat; but in their second innings were only able to score 102, and the visitors won as already stated. The attendance on the ground to-day was large, and the weather fine.
