THE REPORT IN “LE NATIONAL NEWSPAPER ON THE FRENCH DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST CHINA.
(Received September 13, 0.55 a.m.) Paris, September 11. M. Ferry was interviewed to-day by a newspaper correspondent with regard to the Frauco-Chinese difficulty. The report of the remark which was, made by M. Ferry proves that the statement published by Le National yesterday is entirely incorrect. The French Government does not propose to extend warlike operations in China beyond the measures previously announced ; and no change occurred in Admiral Courbett’s plans. This truth of the rumor that France would issue a formal declaration of war against China is also denied.
