THE KUMARA ELECTION.

[to the editor.]

Sir—T and my party have watched the fight between the two candidates, and for a long time we were doubtful which of the two to support. Being independent of the sludge-channel, we did not care much who got in, as they are both good men in their way. But since we heard that Mr Seddon has determined to do his best to cheapen our water, why, we will support the man who lives amongst us ; and if he gets big pay for going to Parliament, we know that it will benefit Kumara instead of some other place.—Yours truly, For self and party, Private Tail-race. July 18, 1884:.

[to the editor.]

There will be a tight election, although you all may doubt it; We must all vote for Seddon, for he cannot do without it. We must all vote for Dick'; gather round to him like men, Give him all your votes, and he is sure to go right in. Seddon is a man worked hard for every miner; To the orphan and the widow there is no one that is kinder; He lias done good service for the district, and that you all do know, Then give him all your votes and straight in he will go. To see his speech iu the House, it reads just like a book, It caused the Ministers and Premier for to look ; The old Major declared he never heard heard the like When Dick was pleading in the case—the miners on the strike. If the ladies had a vote, I am sure our Dick would win, For they would stick to him, always through thick and thin. If they were the electors, they would hold him like a leech, For they know that he would get them a through road to the. beach. John Brampton. Teremakau, July, 1884.
