A return of the quantity and value of gold entered from New Zealand from the Ist April, 1857, to the 31st December, 1882, is published in a Gazette just to hand, and is as follows: Goldfields. Auckland 131,007 141,326 Wellington .... ... 217 21 Picton 5,400 4,495 Nelson 16,741 20,441 Westport 44,101 52,483 Greymouth 320,377 306,542 Hokitika 150,566 143,559 Oamaru ... 650 Dimedin 287,615 358,335 Invercargill 46,696 52,938 Total ... 1,002,720 1,080,790 Although, taking the total for the whole colony there has been a falling off in 1882 as compared with 1881, it will be seen that there has been a decided increase in the amount exported from the West Coast, the quantity in in ounces being—lßßl, Greymouth, 76,637; Hokitika, 35,893. 1882, Greymouth, 80,095; Hokitika, 37,643.
