WESTLAND EDUCATION BOARD.
From the West Coast Tiroes, we extract the following report of business transacted in connection with this district, at the meeting of the Education Board on Thursday last, at which there were present Messrs Hamilton (in the chair), Reid, Parfitt, Grimmond, Lord, Petrie, Warner, and Perkins. The inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows :
From the Kumara Committee, enclosing the resignation of Mr Bussell, teacher, Greenstone School, and requesting that the committee be authorised to make temporary provision. Resolved—“ That the resignation of Mr Bussell be accepted, and that the committee be requested to make tem : porary arrangements for a teacher; also, that the necessary steps be taken by the Board to procure a permanent teacher."
The Secretary read the report of the Building Committee, as follows : Torn- Committee have the honor to report that they met on Tuesday, March 15, and considered the following annlicalions, &c.:—
From the Kumara Committee, for an addition to the Kumara School Building. Your committee recommend that the application be not entertained, until an average attendance of 300 has been maintained for two consecutive quarters.
From the Kumara Committee, with reference to repairs to the teacher’s bouse.
Your Committee instructed the Secretary to request the Kumara Committee to specify the nature of the repairs re* quired. Your Committee authorised the Ku*
mara Committee, to execute certain repairs to the Greenstone School, at a cost not exceeding £2O. The following notices of motion were handed in for next meeting
Mr Warner—“ That the meeting of the Board in future be held at Greymouth ; and that a committee consisting of [Messrs Hamilton, Perkins-, Petrie, and the mover, be appointed to take the necessary steps to carry this resolution into effect.”
Mr Petrie—“ That tile Secretary lay on the table a detailed statement of the salaries, bonuses and other allowances, made to the teachers and other salaried officers of the Board, during the past twelve months.” Mr Petrie— “ That the resolution passed by this Board at a meeting held on Thursday, September 16th, relative to charging for school requisites, be. rescinded ; such resolution being com trary to the spirit and intention of the Education Act.”
