COOPER, * n a ? c . ount his extraordinary travels in China, published m says—“ I had with me a quantity Oi Holloway’s Ointment. I gave some to the people, and nothing could exceed their gratitude; and, in coin sequence, milk, fowls, butler, and horse-feed poured u m upon us, until at last a tea-s-pooi.ful of Ointmei< was worm a iowl and any quantity of peas, and tli« demand became so great that 1 was obliged to luck in the remaining stock M Sola hy i\\ Chemists and Medicine Vendors through* out t;ic W'ui], Leg ally- qualified medical man advertisin g CONSULTS On all Affections of the Nervous System (no matter from what cause arising) On all broken-down constitution^ On all diseases arising from early indie* cretions; On Gout; on Rheumatism. In these colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in “ hot youth ” tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinlnga futile. The sole idea should be the vinca we possess of remedying the ills we all ready have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a Irving lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our faith our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future oflspring, and the duty we owe to ourselves forbid procrastination, and point out to us not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk before employing a barrister, a careful man makes inquiries as to their standing their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications- and as to hip capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection ot a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions ; and, without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest man, whose experience and practice perhaps lie in quite an opposite direction. It is astonishing that so many are driven mad, ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money ! Have I not for years pointed out to them that “IDr. L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified man advertising in the colo nies 1” Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are s ® l1 T il ?#~ sl,ch Phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c.—and had analysed and found them to consist of “Burnt Sugar and flavouring matter,” and the certificates I have proved to be all forgeries ? It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of profession, and advertise, to give those who require the services of my bienoh an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally-qualified man, and one, moreover who has made this his especial study.
