On Thursday' night or Friday morning a woman named Bridget Beard^ i living at Ohairo, left home in her niglit- ! dress, and barefooted walked nearly a mile and threw herself into 'a.'mill ! dam, where she was found yesterday, She was married and lived with her husband, an old resideut of the district [ Lately bothtook to hard drinking and on one or two occasions she has figured in the 1 City Folice' Com t dock oh charges of drunkenness. WRECK OF THE KETCH UNITY. Blenheim, March 24.
On Wednesday at B'p-m., the ketch Unity, 43 tons, Thomson master, coming -fromLytteltori with 63 tons.flour, for Wellington, was approaching Cape Campbell when a: squall sprung up, and blew a heavy gale from S. to W. The vessel first touched the Sandstone roi-k ; and about five minutes later she struck on the north reef. All hands, live in,number, got into the boat, having nothing with thetu. The vessel broke up in about twenty minutes. The men reached the lighthouse atter eight hours pulling, where Hankley, the keepei'i showed them great kindness and lent them clothes. They reached Blenheim on foot last night. The vessel was owned half by the master and half by Captain Thomas, of Wellington.

A rape is reported, by an able-bodied man on a little child eleven years of ae;e, an orphan. Some persons hearing the shrieks of the child, caught the ruffian, and, after using him very roughly, brought him to town, a prisoner.
