GILDO BEATS JARVIS
Eltham Boy Impressive OUT OF C0NDITI0N "AUCKLAND, Last Night. A professional lightweight boxing contest over twelve threo-minute rounds on Saturday night between Young Gildo (Philippine Islands) and Jack Jarvis (Eltham) was won by Gildo on points. The decision was a popular one with tho large crowd. The pair were almogt evenly matched in regard to weight, Gildo scaling 9st. 61b. and Jarvis two pounds heavier. The New Zealander, however, was taller and held the ad* vantage in reach. It was a bright con.test, the earlier rounds especialiy being fought at a very fast pace. Jarvis impressed from the beginning with the speed and power of his punch with either hand. After holding his'own well in the firsl three rounds the Eltham man won the next three in a row, the margin in his favonr in the fourth being very substantial. The seventh round proved quieter than its predecessors and from that stage onwards Jarvis gradually faded out of the picture. Obviously he lacked the condition of the Filipino and was very tired at the conclusion of some of the subsequent rounds.
