Mllk for Children. "I think it is a good idea and we should eontribute something towards the scheme," stated Mr M. E. Hibbard at the meeting of the Dannevirke Borough Couneil when a circular was read from the Health Department about the supply of milk to the schools in the borough. The Mavor, Mr E. Gibbard, said the Government wai paying for the scheme. A copy of-the circular had been forwarded to the t'chools interested, asking whether they desired to make their own arrangements in connection with the scheme, or whether they ' "wished - the eotmcil to convene a conference as suggested in the circular. "If the schbol cornmittees want a conference then we will call one," his Worship added. Sailway Work Proceeds. Thoiugh men have been at work on the northern approach to the Tahoraiti railway bridge almost from the time the wash-out occurred, it will be a matter of several months bef ore the permanent repairs are affected. Qwing to frequent trains the workmen are often ihterrupted. Trains , still cross the bridge at dead-slow speeds. The renovation of the Dannevirke railway station, which te to be painted inside as well at out, will also take several months. Wet Paint Soils Clothes. Mr D. T. ' Glover reported to tne meeting of the Dannevirke Borough Couneil that a lady' and gentleman, visitors to the town, who were at the doraain on Sunday, had their clothes soiled by sitting on a seat that had been recently painted, and which was not dry. "It is a case of carelessnoss on someonete part and must have been most annoying to the people concerned. ] This is the second time that such a thing has occurred," he said. The Mayor, Mr E. -Gibbard, agreed it was very annoying and it was decided to get a report on the matter. Sunday School Picnlc.. The Ormondville Anglican Sunday School pupils held the annual picnic in the grounds of the Parish Hall on Monday afternoon. Many paientfc aua friends were present, and all kinds of games and competitions were entered into by the children with enthusiasin. Band CongratuHated. ■ Eulogistic re'ferences to the perfortoances of the Dannevirke Municipal Band at the Nelson contest, and to the good work and enthusiasm of the c.onductor, Mr W. H. Tougher, were made bv Mr G. I. Anderson at the meeting of the Dannevirke Borough Couneil. Mr Tougher had proved hte ability and was the man the band had been looking for, and he hoped that th«v would be able to retain his services for many years. The band had practically taken third place in the aggregate for musie and he certainly thought they deserved some recognition from the couneil. A motion of congratulation was carried unanimously. Water TrouWe at Otane. The shortage of water at Otane reached a crisis during the week-end. On* Saturday one of the County employees cut off the supply from the lower end of the town, confining it to about 15 houses, and despitb this, no water was available all Saturday and Sunday. The well being on private property, it is not possible for the subscribers to know whether1 the supply is being delibexately withheld, a« ratepayers were assured on more than one occasion that there was an ample supply for the town. Otane has been experiencing a great deal of diffic'iliy j over shortage of water during the ta> I I l'ew weeks.
