KUMARA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent) Mr and Mrs Birss are at present visiting Christchurch. Squadron Leader R. F. Watson, Who recently returned from England has returned to Wigram after visiting relatives in Dillmanstown. Messrs C. McCormick and L. Cooper have returned to Auckland after spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Pritchard, Dillmanstown. Mrs Ollerenshaw presided at the monthly meeting of the Kumara Women’s Institute on Wednesday evening. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Birss, Fahey and Neame. A cablegram was read from the secretary who is on a holiday in Australia. The nresident read the Dominion President’s letter. A committee meeting was called for Decembei’ 8 to arrange for the children’s Christmas Party. The A.C.E. box on gift suggestions from the University of Otago proved very interesting to all members. It was decided to send a donation to headquarters for International Day. Results of the competitions were: Best bloom: Mrs Ollerenshaw 1, Mrs Pool 2, and Mrs Evenden and Mrs Comport equal 3. Best child’s feeder. Mrs Fahey 1, Mr? Dillon 2, Mrs Ollerenshaw 3. All the feders entered will be forwarded to the children’s ward of the Westland Hospital. An Interesting talk on ‘‘The League of Nations” and “United Nations” was given by Mr H. S. Kent W.E.A. tutor and on Mrs Reedy’s motion, a very hearty vote of thanks, was accorded the speaker. Supper was served by the hostesses Mrs Pool and Miss C. Gibson. The meeting concluded with “God Defend New Zealand.” _
