A cup was donated by Mr R. P. Nolan, which greatly increased the interest. The competition was won by Mr W. D. Nolan, junr.. and Mrs Doreen Howat, and the cup was presented by Mr R. J. Eggeling. The other winners were: Lucky spot, Miss Adrienne Sands and J. Nolan; Monte Carlo, Miss June Waters and R. Eggeling; statue waltz, Miss Clare and Mr E. J. Nolan, reports our correspondent. Whitebait are still coming in limit' ed quantities, but unless the unforseen happens, the season threatens to come to an early close. Great interesLis centred at present on the coming of a large vessel, the Melva, from Greymouth to Jackson Bay, which will remove the acute situation that now exists in the district. Besides household necessities it brings machineiY for the Public Works, to be used on the Haast Pass road construction. Next Saturday, evening pictures will be shown in the theatre at the Public Works camp site near Haast. The weather has much improved, and several bright sunny days have eventuated.
